At Skype, we regularly release updates to our software, and with every update, we introduce new features, improve existing ones and fix bugs.

The version of Skype that you were using is out of date and you were missing out on some of the great new features that Skype has to offer. For this reason, your version has been automatically upgraded.

What are the new features I can look forward to?

There are loads of new features within the latest version of Skype which make chatting, talking and video calling with your friends and family easier and more enjoyable. These include:

• Better quality video calling.
• Automatic call recovery.
• New contact search and add experience.
• Simplified sharing of files and contacts.
• More emoticons to express yourself with.
• Improved call handling when you run out of Skype Credit.
• Improved quality of video received from Skype on mobile devices. 
• Flicking through your contact list 'as pictures', or if you prefer, contact list view.
• Smiling, waving and saying ‘Hello’ to everyone with group video (available with Skype Premium).

Does this affect my Skype Credit balance or subscriptions?

No, your account details will stay the same, and any Skype Credit will remain in your account. Any subscriptions that you have purchased will also stay as they were before the upgrade.

Do I have to upgrade my current version?

Yes. To continue using Skype, you must upgrade to the latest version. Simply click Upgrade when prompted, and the Skype installer will do the rest.
