If you suspect that someone else has your Skype name and password, you should do the following:
- Check your computer’s security and remove any malicious
software or viruses.Learn more about protecting your computer.
- Change your password immediately.
While Skype is committed to ensuring that your experience is as secure as possible and that your Skype Name and password are kept as safe as possible, there are still ways that people can get hold of them that Skype cannot always prevent, such as:
- Social engineering techniques, such as watching over
your shoulder when you sign into Skype in a public place.
- Phishing or spoofing – where persons approach you through
email, text message or sometimes on the phone
(this is called “vishing” and the caller will present
with a fake Caller ID), pretending to be from Skype. They
then claim there is a problem with your account and ask
for your Skype Name and password.
- Downloading malicious code from unknown sources.
